The best bike brand you haven't heard of (yet)
New name, seriously experienced crew. Avona was launched in Germany in 2025 by Jonas Müller and Max Koch, and they're not exactly beginners. Jonas has designed bikes and components for BMC, Santa Cruz, DT Swiss and ARC8. Max started out as a bike mechanic and went on to run his own bike company. After years of making great bikes for other people, they started Avona to build bikes with zero compromises.
Their approach is refreshingly nerdy. Instead of chasing one number on a spec sheet, they look at everything that actually makes you faster: aerodynamics, weight, stiffness, comfort, rolling resistance and drivetrain friction. That's why every Avona comes with fast-rolling tyres as standard and a factory-waxed chain treated by CeramicSpeed. Most brands don't even bother with that, but Avona reckons a waxed chain is worth more than an expensive groupset.
Each bike is assembled to order in Germany, so you can tweak the parts that matter to you, like crank length, bar width, stem length, tyres and wheels. You get a bike that's set up for you, not for a warehouse shelf.
And the results speak for themselves. The cycling media has been raving, with Bikerumor calling the Velum road bike "the best road bike you've never heard of." Avona bikes are already racing at the XC World Cup, and an unreleased version of the Callis gravel bike has just won a UCI Gravel World Series race. Not bad for a brand that's barely out of the box.
Small brand, big brains, serious speed. Get in early.
