Description

An air shock that rides like a coil, tuned just for you

The Intend Hover Monocoque is a hand-built air shock that Intend claim rides on par with a coil, and it's custom shim-tuned to your weight, your frame and your riding style. No guessing which off-the-shelf tune is "close enough".

After six years of Hover production, Intend listed every failure they had ever seen (12 in total, whether it happened once in a thousand shocks or 32 times) and engineered a fix for each one. The result is the new one-piece Monocoque body with a German-made low-friction polymer-oxide coating, an Autoflate dimple that balances the negative chamber automatically, and a damping circuit with 95% fewer parts that can "clack" back and forth on every hit, for a calmer, smoother ride.

A 3-mode flip lever gives you Downhill (open), Gravel (firm but still working on technical climbs) and Road (near lock-out for fire roads). The IBS mount lets you convert between Metric and Trunnion, and an analogue high-pressure shock pump is included.

Ordering: let's spec your shock

Every Intend shock is built and shim-tuned by hand to suit the rider, the bike and the riding. Intend set the damping for your weight, your frame's leverage curve and how you ride, and can fit the bushings (matched to your frame's hardware to 0.01mm) so it arrives ready to bolt in.

Please contact us before ordering (or order and we'll get in touch straight away) with:

  • Your bike: brand, model, year and frame size
  • Shock size: eye-to-eye x stroke and mount type (Metric or Trunnion), from your current shock
  • Your rider weight (with riding gear)
  • Your riding style and terrain (e.g. trail, enduro racing, bike park, e-MTB)
  • Whether you want Intend bushings fitted (and your mounting hardware widths)

We'll confirm the right shock, stroke (including stroke reduction), tune and lead time with you and Intend. Not sure of your sizes? Send us your bike details and we'll work it out.

The Inside Line:
Imagine a coil shock that weighs less, adjusts with a pump, and was built just for you. That's the pitch, and it delivers.

Features:

  • Hand-built air shock with personalised shim-stack tune
  • Strokes: 55, 65 or 75mm (each reducible by 2.5, 5 or 7.5mm)
  • Mounts: Trunnion or Metric (IBS mount converts between them)
  • High- and low-speed damping
  • 3-mode lever: Downhill / Gravel / Road
  • Autoflate self-balancing negative chamber
  • Opticoat one-piece piston rod, Trelleborg dynamic seals
  • Tolerance-compensating bushing axles in 0.01mm steps
  • Material: 7075 aluminium, black anodised
  • Max rider weight 105kg incl. gear / 500psi
  • Analogue high-pressure shock pump included

Hover or Rover?

  • Hover Monocoque: air spring, lighter, riders up to 105kg.
  • Rover Monocoque: coil/air hybrid for coil suppleness with air-spring bottom-out control, and the only option for riders over 105kg.

Technologies:
Monocoque body
The air can and body are made in one piece instead of several, so there are fewer seals and joints to leak or creak, and a polymer-oxide surface (not just anodising) for low friction.
Personalised tune
Intend shim the damper for each order based on rider weight, frame kinematics and riding style. A frame change later? They can re-shim it.
Stroke reduction
Any stroke can be shortened by 2.5, 5 or 7.5mm with internal spacers. For example, a 205x60 shock is a 205x65 with a 5mm reduction.
IBS (Interchangeable Body System) mount
Swap the mount to run the same shock as Metric or Trunnion. Older Hover models are not IBS compatible.

Notes:

  • Max rider weight 105kg including gear (heavier riders: see the Rover).
  • Shorter strokes (40-45mm) are covered by the Hover Monocoque Light; ask us.
  • Check frame clearance and compatibility with us before ordering.
